He won last night's heat of the Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year with his portrait of the cultural icon that is Don Letts. So he's through to the semi-finals which will be broadcast on 9th December. Shown here are the self-portrait he submitted as his entry to the competition, and the portrait he completed of Don Letts during last night's programme.

 

the competitive event Alvin Kofi said, "I actually found it quite enjoyable, meeting and working alongside the other artists and seeing their approaches.  And we felt really welcomed by the Sky production team who made all the artists feel at ease."

 

The first two images here show the self-portrait Kofi submitted as his entry to the competition, described by the judges as "a piece of bravura painting".

He now goes through to the semi-finals which will be broadcast on 9th December.
