Looking back and reflecting on the new friends made, challenges and celebrations since taking part in Portrait Artist of the Year, I can truly say it was an enriching experience. But the one highlight that stands out for me was painting the portrait of my son, Emanuel. It was a special thing to do, for a father to paint his son and create an image that celebrates his life.

Working within the limited deadlines of television production didn't leave time for all the details. During the painting sessions, to add to the narrative of the portrait, Emanuel created a recipe for a cocktail with each of the ingredients having its origins in the countries that make up his ancestry. And I have now been able to include them in the finished portrait here.
